Teen Suicide are resoundingly alive and kicking out the lo-fi pop jams with feral angularity. In their hometown of muggy Orlando, surrounded by friends, family and fans, Will’s Pub became the proving ground for new songs for a (gasp) new album. As Gramsci once stated, “In order to be born again, one first must die,” so it seems that the dust has been blown off Teen Suicide’s muse and their rebirth is messy and loud in its surety and rage, and in its teary-eyed hope.
While 2022’s Honeybee Table at the Butterfly Feast was purported to a be an epitaph for the group, the effervesce of the fresh material we heard Wednesday night proves there’s still blood pumping in the hearts of the band and their acolytes. Joyfully bounding from the lo-fi lonercore tunes of yore to their newly minted dancefloor surges, Teen Suicide showcased an expansive repertoire that could barely be contained in their hourlong set.
The future, such as it is, might just be theirs…
