A Clermont woman was arrested for theft after skip scanning $74 worth of food at a self-checkout register in Walmart.
A security camera caught 35-year-old Jiaya Lataria Wright skip scanning merchandise at a self-checkout register in Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, around 4:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The footage showed Wright stacked two packages of fajita meat on top of each other but only scanned the bottom one. She then put a pack of shredded cheese on the register without scanning it. An associate came over to help, but she still bagged the pack without scanning it, the report said.
Wright proceeded to put another pack of fajita meat on top of a container of butter, scan only the bottom container and bag them both. She also scanned four limes in a bag later found to contain seven limes and two tomatoes. In total, she tried to leave the store with $74.74 in unpaid merchandise, the report said…
