As the federal government shutdown continues to ripple through the community, SoDo District is stepping up to help neighbors feeling the strain, especially those impacted by the temporary pause in SNAP benefits.
United Against Poverty (UP) Orlando, located in SoDo, is on the frontlines providing groceries, support, and stability for working families, veterans, and seniors struggling to make ends meet. Their affordable grocery program lets families shop for what they actually need, reinforcing UP’s mission to offer a hand up, not a hand out.
Local businesses and residents are being asked to join the effort. Here’s how:
- Share resources with your teams and customers — UP’s grocery program serves anyone living at or below 200% of the federal poverty line.
- Host a food drive — businesses can become Food Pantry Collection Stations, with materials and pickup provided by UP.
- Donate directly — just $25 provides a week’s worth of groceries for a local family.
Even small acts add up. $250 feeds 10 families. $2,500 feeds 100…
