A new driving law in Florida enacted this year is cracking down on extreme speeding by imposing stricter penalties on “super speeders” than previous rules, leading to an increasing number of drivers facing hefty fines or even jail time.
The “Super Speeder” law, which came into effect on July 1, classifies driving over 50 mph above the posted speed limit or faster than 100 mph as an offense that can lead to arrest. First-time offenders convicted of excessive speeding are required to pay a fine of $500 and could face up to 30 days in jail.
Repeat offenders will be fined $1,000 and could spend up to 90 days behind bars. If a driver breaks the law twice within five years, their license can be suspended for 180 days or, in some instances, up to a year, according to The Tampa Bay Times…
