Proposed OCPS Schedule Moves Elementary Start to 7:45 a.m – Parents Asked to Weigh In

Orange County Public Schools is asking families for feedback on a proposal that could dramatically alter daily routines across the district, including starting elementary schools as early as 7:45 a.m.

The change is being considered in response to a new Florida law requiring middle and high schools to begin later in the morning unless a district can prove that doing so would negatively impact students, employees, or families. To comply, OCPS is collecting input before deciding how to move forward.

Under the current schedule, high schools begin at 7:20 a.m., elementary schools at 8:45 a.m., and middle schools at 9:30 a.m. The proposed shift would push high schools to 8:40 a.m. and middle schools to 9:35 a.m., while elementary schools would start an hour earlier at 7:45 a.m…
