A Maryland man was arrested for theft after skip-scanning $198 worth of merchandise at Walmart.
A deputy responded to Walmart, located at 550 U.S. Hwy. 27, Clermont, for a theft involving 43-year-old Jerwon Donnell Vaughan around 3:10 p.m. Dec. 24, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
An asset protection associate advised that he had been seen skip-scanning merchandise over surveillance cameras. He then tried to leave the store until being confronted by the associate. They found he had stolen 38 items worth $198.06 and wanted to prosecute, the report said.
Footage of the incident showed Vaughan was at a self-checkout register when he picked up several items from his cart and bagged them without paying. He scanned a select few things from the grocery bags before trying to leave, the report said…
