21 birds, including iconic swans, found dead at Florida park within a month

ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — An Orlando park is facing a bird flu outbreak, with now over 20 birds, including several iconic swans, killed by the disease.

The City of Orlando said the disease appears to have started spreading at Lake Eola Park around Dec. 17. The first two swan deaths were reported days later, with the number of deaths eventually growing to 19.

While Lake Eola is home to several species of swans, those found dead were all Royal Mute swans, according to the city. Authorities said two other wild birds also died within the month, bringing the total number of deaths to 21.

The lake is well-known for its swans. Locals and tourists alike come to feed and photograph them, and parkgoers can even rent swan boats to take out on the water…
