Retired Orlando Police Officer Fatally Shot by Father-in-Law at New Year’s Day Family Cookout

A family gathering on New Year’s Day erupted into violence, resulting in the death of a retired Orlando police officer. According to reports from WFTV, ex-Officer Dennis Turner was found with multiple gunshot wounds following a dispute during a family cookout on Kozart Street. The suspected shooter, identified as Turner’s father-in-law, Jeffery London, reportedly was not invited to the event.

Witnesses suggest that an altercation between London and Turner preceded the fatal shooting, after which London is said to have shot at Turner, then stood over him to fire several more rounds. In a statement obtained by WFTV, Turner’s wife recounted that she and her husband had ceased to communicate with London since a previous argument in July. After the incident, London reportedly fled the scene.

Further illumination on the somber incident comes from new court documents released and obtained by WESH. London, recognized through property records as a co-owner of the Kozart Street home, got into his car and left after the murder. Orlando Police subsequently arrested him during a traffic stop in Highlands County.
