After 17 Years, A Popular Restaurant Is REOPENING Near Disney World

HUGE news for burger fans, especially those who have been missing a certain chain in Orlando since it left back in 2009.

Whataburger is very popular in many states and has been slowly expanding throughout the country. While the chain opened in Orlando in 2005, it only lasted a few years before it closed due to a lack of sales and popularity. That’s all changing now, though, and it looks like we’ll be getting another chance to experience it in the near future!

According to the Orlando Business Journal, new permits filed with Orange County have revealed that a new Whataburger location is on its way. It’ll be located at 12305 E. Colonial Drive near the Waterford Lakes Shopping Center, the former home of Aussie Grille (the fast food concept from the creators of Outback Steakhouse).

The permits reveal that work could begin as early as February 2nd of this year, so it’s likely we’ll begin to see construction begin soon. There are currently 48 Whataburger locations in Florida as a whole, but the Orlando locations closed back in 2009. The 2,500-square-foot building with a drive-thru is expected to be worth about $700,000.

However, it’s looking like customers are looking for more burger options across the market as a whole, as well as ways to find cheaper meals that are still filling. Other franchises that are currently looking to expand in the Orlando market are:

  • North Star Dining USA Inc. is looking to open five more Five Guys restaurants
  • White Castle is planning to build locations in Kissimmee and Daytona Beach
  • Jack in the Box aims to bring 26 locations to Central Florida (it’s local debut will be in Longwood later this month)

This spot will only be roughly 30 minutes from Disney World, so if you’ve been wanting to try it, the drive isn’t terrible. Looking for more recent dining news? Check out our posts below!
