DUI suspect leads cops on dangerous chase through pedestrian-laden mobile home community

A Tavares woman was arrested after speeding through a neighborhood and crashing into a fence while trying to avoid charges for sideswiping another driver.

The driver of a black Ram 1500 flagged down a trooper from the side of County Road 473 in Leesburg at 4:30 p.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Florida Highway Patrol. He advised that a silver Toyota Tacoma, driven by 47-year-old Carlisle Marie Gilleeny-Slingerland, sideswiped him and fled eastbound.

In response, the trooper proceeded in that direction in an attempt to find the Tacoma. He spotted the vehicle turning into the Mid Florida Lakes mobile home park, located at 199 Forest Dr. Behind the trooper was a Lake County Sheriff’s Office unit, and they both tried to stop the vehicle, the report said.

Two maneuvers failed, and the pursuit continued throughout the residential community. Gilleeny-Slingerland sped through the neighborhood and disregarded the safety of others during the chase. She did not obey stop signs, drove through intersections without yielding and drove off the paved roadway.
