A towering scrapyard fire at a recycling yard west of Orlando International Airport sent a thick column of black smoke stretching across central Florida on Tuesday afternoon, visible from miles away as a news helicopter circled overhead and firefighters attacked the flames below.
The blaze broke out at 8075 W. Landstreet Rd, according to WESH, which reported its Chopper 2 was over the scene and that flames could be spotted from several parts of Central Florida. The station noted it had reached out to fire officials for more details as the situation unfolded.
Orange County Fire Rescue said on X that crews were working near the intersection of W. Landstreet Road and Sidney Hayes Road and described a “50×50 pile of scrap metal on fire,” adding that no structures were threatened. The department reported heavy smoke in the area and said both drone and ground teams were on scene.
