This Charming Lakeside City In Central Florida Is The Most Appealing Suburb For People Moving Into The State, According To New Report

We may be a little biased here in Miami, but it seems like living in a major city is all the rage. However, it turns out that movers are looking towards the suburbs for their forever homes. In fact, according to the newest report by moveBuddha, 1 in 4 Americans who are looking to move are searching up friendly suburbs.

But which ones are the very best? In their search to identify the most popular suburb in each U.S. state for 2026, moveBuddha researchers calculated an “in-to-out move ratio.” This measures how much interest there is in moving to a specific suburb compared to moving out of it. To qualify, suburbs had to be within a 30-mile radius of a major hub city and have a minimum baseline of search activity.

So, which Florida suburb is the best for movers in 2026?

According to the study, the most highly sought-after suburb in the Sunshine State is Mount Dora! It not only stands out as the top choice within the state, but nationwide as well.

The historic lakefront city boasts an in-to-out move ratio of 2.75, meaning that nearly three times as many people are looking to move in as are looking to move away. Out of the entire national list, Mount Dora places No. 4 most popular suburb, sitting just behind Wake Forest (NC), Murrells Inlet (SC) and Boerne (TX).

As far as suburbs go, the city located about 30 miles northwest of Orlando has a little something to offer everyone. It overlooks the stunning Lake Dora and is known for its relaxing atmosphere, 19th-century architecture and large canopy oak trees. It also sits on an unusual 184-foot plateau, earning it the nickname “Florida’s Mountain Town.”

What to do in Mount Dora

If you’re thinking of calling the city home, Mount Haven is a haven for outdoor recreation. Think fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, scenic boat tours and more. Despite its small size, it also has a vibrant cultural scene, which includes the Modernism Museum, the Mount Dora History Museum and Florida’s oldest continuously operating hotel, the Lakeside Inn.

And you’ll never run out of things to do! Mount Dora hosts more than 30 festivals and events throughout the year, with highlights including February’s massive Mount Dora Arts Festival, October’s Craft Fair and the annual Christmas lighting festival…
