New traffic pattern on US 169 viaduct bridges begins Wednesday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Northbound U.S. 169 is now open with a new head-to-head traffic pattern across the southbound U.S. 169 viaduct bridge.

The new traffic pattern began Wednesday at noon and starts just past the Kansas City Downtown Airport and end just north of the viaduct bridges near Briarcliff Parkway and MO Route 9.

Here’s what to expect:

  • NB U.S. 169 will open across the SB U.S. 169 Viaduct Bridge in head-to-head traffic pattern with one lane in each direction
  • MO Route 9 traffic will not be able to access SB U.S. 169
  • NB U.S. 169 traffic will not be able to exit onto MO Route 9
  • The speed limit will be reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph throughout the project area

This traffic pattern will remain in place until the completion of the scheduled bridge replacement in summer 2028…
