RIVERSIDE, Mo. (KCTV) – We’re less than a week from the start of the World Cup, and things are well under way across the Kansas City metro. Argentina touched down on Sunday, and fans have flocked outside their hotel and base camp at Sporting KC’s training facility. Piropos owner Cristina Worden says you can expect a fun, rowdy crowd of fútbol fans from her home country.
“We are crazy emotional,” said Worden. “The whole country, even if they don’t go to the game, they go out with flags and music. They expect to win, and the city is going to know when they win.”
Worden and her husband own Piropos in Riverside, which serves Argentinian food, and say it’s going to be a busy summer for them. They’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of opening their restaurant and the World Cup is going on, with Argentina staying and playing here as well.
“It’s one in each side of my heart,” said Worden, pointing to the Argentina and American flags hanging up outside the entrance to the restaurant. “What else can I tell you? I’m so proud to live most of my life here, but I am very proud I was born in Argentina. I have quite a few friends who are here already, and they are very happy to be here, and I hope we are feeding them the way they deserve.”…
