Waldo cable theft that cut power to 1,800 residents under investigation, police say

Detectives on Thursday were investigating a theft that left people in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood without power for about an hour this week.

Officers responded just before midnight Tuesday to W. 88th Terrace and Wornall Road after a caller reported seeing power lines being ripped down off a pole, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman.

When police arrived, the power had gone out and the suspects had already left the area. Detectives in the Kansas City Police Department’s property crimes unit were investigating the theft…
