KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A First Warn is in place for Wednesday with scattered rain and thunderstorms as our next ‘cool’ front comes through the region.
As you start your Wednesday morning commute, those of you in far northeast Kansas and northern Missouri have the best chance for impacts with rain and rumbles. Thankfully, there is not much of a severe thunderstorm risk in that area. There could be a few spotty showers closer to KC, but you would only briefly need the wipers. It is a warm start to the day in the upper 70s and low 80s out ahead of the front.
As the morning progresses, the cold front slowly sinks to the south. This will help focus some rain and storms closer to KC into the early to mid-afternoon. Along the front, a few stronger thunderstorms are possible near I-70 and areas south.
There is a level 1/5 risk in place for gusty winds up to 60 mph. As of the latest data, the best rain and storm chance for the KC metro comes in for the afternoon and early evening.
Thanks to rain-cooled air and extra clouds in the region, as well as the front passing in the afternoon, we are expecting high temperatures to be a bit lower in the mid to upper 80s.
Those of you south of the KC metro look much hotter today.
Anderson, Linn, Bates, and Henry counties could get into the mid 90s, feeling up to 100 degrees. This area gets touched by the cold front much later in the day.
