$1 million Mega Millions prize claimed in northeast Kansas

OVERLAND PARK ( KSNT ) – The winner of a Mega Millions lottery ticket valued at $1 million has stepped forward to claim the prize.

Cory Thone with the Kansas Lottery says the ticket, originally sold on April 9 , was claimed Friday, May 3. The winner is choosing to remain anonymous. The winning numbers were 34-43-51-52-69 with a “Mega Ball” of 25.

While the ticket’s value is listed as $1 million, the winner received only $710,000 due to the 5% state tax and 24% federal tax on the money. The ticket was sold at a QuikTrip located at 7621 West 159th Street in the Overland Park area which received a $1,000 selling bonus.

The prize was initially listed as being worth just over $1 million. Thone says this was a reporting error that combined two Mega Millions wins on April 9.
