It would have been foolish, of course, for the Chiefs to proceed through the remainder of the 2024 season clinging to the notion that, somehow, wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster would stay healthy enough to anchor the team’s wide receivers room. The Chiefs were always going to need a trade to address their injury issues.
On Sunday, Smith-Schuster did, to no one’s surprise, go down with an injury, leaving the game with a hamstring problem. And though the Chiefs kept chugging along with another win–their most impressive, a 28-18 runaway in San Francisco–to go to 6-0, the pressure is mounting for the team to make a move on a receiver.
Already gone for the regular seaosn are star Rashee Rice and free-agent signee Hollywood Brown.
One receiver who is eminently available and could no doubt be had on the cheap is former Chargers star Mike Williams, who is coming back from a torn ACL he suffered in Week 3 last season. Williams signed with the Jets this offseason, but has not fit in well with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
