FIRST WARN FORECAST: Smoke and dust blanket the area, poor air quality into Saturday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The storms are done, but we are still First Warning you for a combo of hazards into Saturday. Poor air quality, still windy conditions, and a 30-degree drop in temperature will be the start to our weekend.

The storm system that brought our severe weather and high winds Friday was powerful enough to spawn a massive dust storm in Texas and Oklahoma. It also sucked up smoke from fires in Oklahoma and Kansas and blew it right into the Kansas City area. This will be an issue for those with sensitive respiratory systems, and they may wish to remain indoors until Saturday afternoon. By that point, we may see conditions improve.

Saturday will still pack stiff winds, but it won’t be nearly as bad as what we had Friday. It will be unpleasant at times but not dangerous. Gusts from the northwest could clock in up to 35 mph at times. It will not be that windy all day and everywhere, just in pockets.

It will also be notably cooler, with upper 40s in the morning and only 50 for an afternoon high. Skies will be mostly cloudy, and there is a chance for a few showers near and after sunset.

Sunday is the better weekend day with more sun and less wind, but it will still be cool with highs in the mid-50s.

We pop right back to the 70s for St. Paddy’s Day, but it will be windy again, with gusts to 35 mph from the southwest…
