Firefighters say Independence apartment fire was caused by unattended candle

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) – The Independence Fire Department was on the scene of an apartment building fire on Wednesday that possibly could have been avoided.

According to a post on social media, firefighters were dispatched to the four-unit apartment building at 5:25 a.m. on March 19. There was heavy smoke coming from one of the units, and crews used an “aggressive interior fire attack” to extinguish it.
