Kansas Weather Alert: Fire Risk, Ping Pong Size Hail, and Wind Gusts Up to 60 MPH Near Oklahoma Border

Dodge City, KS – Temperatures climbing into the mid-80s and dry air funneling in from the south are setting the stage for elevated fire weather conditions across southwest Kansas today.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a cold front crossing the region Friday will separate cooler air to the north from very warm, dry conditions to the south. Areas along the Oklahoma border, including Barber and Comanche counties, could see humidity drop into the teens, increasing fire danger.

A marginal risk of severe thunderstorms is also in play, primarily in Barber and Pratt counties. Storms could develop after 6 p.m., bringing isolated threats of wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of ping pong balls…
