Man accused of throwing rock at off-duty officer’s head when asked to leave hotel

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A man with two dozen previous trespassing arrests is accused of throwing a rock at a police officer’s head, causing a “large laceration.”

Documents filed with the Jackson County Circuit Court show that 61-year-old Richard M. Sherman was arrested on April 5, 2025, soon after he was asked to leave the Sheraton Hotel in Crown Center.

An off-duty officer with the Kansas City Police Department was working for the hotel at the time, wearing his department-issued uniform and duty belt. The officer told investigators he asked Sherman if he was a guest at the hotel, and Sherman responded by yelling obscenities…
