If downtown is the heart of a city, a well-planned trail is an integral arterial route. It complements busy streets and highways by providing a safer, healthier and more eco-friendly transportation option. In Overland Park, Kansas, the Indian Creek Trail is the centerpiece of the city’s extensive trail system.
“It goes through the heart of our community,” says Gregg Riess. “It connects the west to the east, passing through a number of neighborhoods and parks. You also go by schools, recreational facilities, golf courses, retail shops and an office park with really interesting architecture.”
