Kansas City marks 100th homicide with killing of 16-year-old girl

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City has reached a grim milestone – its 100th homicide of the year – following the Saturday killing of 16-year-old Traelynn Sibley.

Her death also underscores another troubling statistic: the city has recorded more than 100 homicides in 33 of the past 40 years.

The last time Kansas City ended a year below that mark was 2014, with 82 killings. Sibley’s death is the eighth homicide this year involving a victim under the age of 18.
