Customers offer support after Overland Park bookstore damaged by overnight fire

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – The owner of a bookstore in downtown Overland Park is picking up the pieces after an overnight fire that started at the restaurant next door.

The fire was reported at about 2 a.m. by a police officer who happened to be passing by the location at 79th and Floyd Streets. The Overland Park Fire Department said the fire originated in Torreador Mexican restaurant then spread to Monstera’s Books next door. It has been ruled an accident. Fire department personnel speculated that it may have started as an electrical fire.

No one was in either business. It caused fire, smoke and water damage in the restaurant. The bookstore had smoke and water damage.
