Prosecutors: Shots fired at officers during 97 mph police chase through Jackson County

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Two people are charged in connection with a dangerous high-speed chase that included one of the suspects shooting at police officers.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Savannah Landers with the following crimes that stemmed from a high-speed chase last week.

  • Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention
  • Armed criminal action
  • Unlawful use of a weapon
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Cyvauodis Brewer faces similar crimes from the same chase, according to prosecutors. He is charged with:

  • First-degree assault
  • Armed criminal action
  • Unlawful use of a weapon
  • Unlawful possession of a weapon
  • Aggravated fleeing a stop or detention
  • Possession of a controlled substance

Court records show police tried to stop Landers and Brewer for speeding on August 28 near Sterling and Lexington Avenues.

Prosecutors said Landers and Brewer sped away in their Ford Escape. At one point the police chase reached speeds up to 97 miles an hour, according to court records.

The pair is accused of driving into oncoming traffic on Truman Road as they tried to escape. At one point Brewer fired a gun out the window toward the officers behind them according to prosecutors…
