Car driving 100+ mph causes wreck on Highway 71, 2 people in critical condition

Two people were hospitalized with critical injuries after a car wreck on U.S. Highway 71 in Kansas City Thursday afternoon.

Around 3:45 p.m., a burgundy Honda Civic with two occupants was traveling more than 100 miles per hour northbound on Highway 71, just past Red Bridge in southern Kansas City, according toAlayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver was weaving between vehicles, passing too closely, and overcorrected the vehicle to avoid a collision, Gonzalez said in a press release.
