Hospital offers free gun locks amid rising gunshot wound patients

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Saint Luke’s Hospital is providing free gun safety locks to the community as the health system reports a significant increase in gunshot wound cases.

The hospital saw a 52% increase from 2019 to 2024 in adults treated for gunshot wounds in their Level One Trauma Center.

The gun safety locks come with a lock and key, along with instructions and a suicide awareness card. The device works by threading through the gun’s chamber and locking at the bottom.
