Local volunteers honor veterans with handcrafted Quilts of Valor

LENEXA, Kan. (KCTV) – Local volunteers honored six veterans with handcrafted Quilts of Valor, offering more than warmth through their hand-stitched gratitude.

Inside Prairie Point Quilt and Fabric Shop, volunteers sew for a mission. They’re stitching gratitude square by square into Quilts of Valor.

“They deserve it – they really do and their families deserve it,” said Marilyn Miller, a volunteer with the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

Veterans honored:

  • Brigadier General Bryan Wayne Wampler, U.S. Army – 32 years of service, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom
  • Lieutenant Colonel Theodore E. Lockwood II, U.S. Army – 25 years of service
  • Colonel Margaret A. Sullivan, U.S. Army – 28 years of service
  • Chief Warrant Officer 2 Christopher O. Crowley, U.S. Army – Vietnam veteran, Dustoff Pilot with the 159th Medical Detachment Air Ambulance, recipient of the Congressional Gold Medal for Dustoff Crews of Vietnam
  • Radioman Petty Officer Third Class Robert L. Shannon, U.S. Navy – Vietnam era veteran
