Jury finds man guilty in 2021 deadly shooting in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Friday afternoon that the man charged with murder in the death of Ernest Gibson has been convicted.

According to the prosecutor, the jury found 38-year-old Brandon Johnson guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action. The conviction stems from a 2021 shooting near East 69th Street and Jackson Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri that left 63-year-old Ernest Gibson dead.

The jury recommended that Johnson be sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder charge and six years in prison on the armed criminal action charge for a total of 30 years.
