Pet Resource Center offers free pet microchipping event

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Dozens of Kansas City pet owners received free microchipping services for their animals during an event organized by the Pet Resource Center in partnership with the city.

The Pet Resource Center microchipped 50 pets at no charge. Microchips help reunite lost pets with their owners by providing identification that can be scanned at shelters and veterinary clinics.

When pets end up at shelters, staff scan the chip and contact owners directly. The city said the technology saves time for animal control officers who would otherwise spend hours tracking down owners.

“If a pet is found and brought to a veterinary clinic or a shelter, they’re able to be scanned for a chip and then that owner’s information is easily able to be looked up,” said Madison Brown, marketing director for the Pet Resource Center of Kansas City.
