Missouri AG cautions fans on 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket fraud

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — With Kansas City set to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway is urging fans to take extra care when buying tickets.

“With the World Cup coming to Kansas City, excitement is high, and unfortunately, so is the potential for fraud. Missourians should be able to enjoy this once-in-a-generation event without fear of being deceived. My Office will hold accountable anyone who seeks to exploit our families, and we stand ready to assist anyone who encounters suspicious activity,” said Hanaway.

The Attorney General’s Office recommends that Four States residents, and anybody else wanting to buy tickets, stick with purchasing from FIFA.com, the FIFA Resale Marketplace, or other trusted platforms. And to be cautious about sharing personal or financial information with unfamiliar sellers.

If you decide to purchase tickets from a reseller, the AG’s office suggests calling the Consumer Complaint Hotline at 800-392-8222 or checking with the Better Business Bureau first. And if you’re paying online, they recommend using a credit card with fraud protection and making sure the site shows “https://” and a closed lock icon before entering your information…
