Kansas City Police Department touts progress in fight against violent crime

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City saw a drop in violent and property crimes in 2025, with homicides reaching their lowest level in seven years and non-fatal shootings down by more than 30 percent, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Here are the numbers KCPD released for 2025 compared to 2024:

  • Homicides fell by 5%
  • It was the lowest number of homicides since 2018.
  • Homicide clearance rate was 75%
  • The national average is 58%
  • Non-fatal shootings fell by 31%
  • Robberies fell by 27%
  • Property damage fell by 19%
  • Stealing fell by 15%
  • Stolen autos fell by 32%

“Kansas City is getting safer, as we add more officers while working hand-in-hand with our community and partners,” Police Chief Stacey Graves said.
