KCPD unveils new navy blue officer uniforms with an ode to its past

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Police officers around Kansas City will look a little different going forward.

The Kansas City Police Department unveiled a new uniform Monday morning, adopting a new navy blue look. The department is moving on from a lighter, French-blue style it had donned since 1984.

Among the reasons given for the change in uniform was the new material repels fluid, breathes better, and provides UV protection.

“Officers are also wearing a patch on both sleeves. KANSAS CITY is boldly displayed on the patch. The year ’1874′ reflects the year KCPD originated. The interior color is French blue, paying homage to the department’s past,” KCPD stated. “This new patch matches the new uniform’s look and preserves KCPD’s storied history of service to Kansas City.”
