If you start seeing blue and white drones flying around your neighborhood, don’t be alarmed. Someone’s probably just expecting a package.
Amazon announced Feb. 9 that its Prime Air drone delivery service is now live in the Kansas City metro. The drones will be flying in from facilities adjacent to Amazon’s MKC6 fulfillment center, 6925 Riverview Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.
The drones will carry packages that weigh up to five pounds and will travel within a 7.5-mile distance during the daylight hours. Drone deliveries will be available for Amazon Prime members at $4.99, and $9.99 for non-Prime customers. Amazon describes the drone delivery as an “ultra-fast delivery service” that reduces road traffic and lowers carbon emissions.
The idea was first brought up in April 2025, when an Amazon representative told The Star that the company was considering bringing delivery drones to Kansas City.
