KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City man is behind bars, charged with two counts of second-degree murder in connection with a weekend shooting at Status Nightclub on Southwest Blvd. that left two women dead and two others hurt.
Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced Feb. 17 that Dontae M. Brooks faces two counts of second-degree murder, four counts of armed criminal action, one count of first-degree assault, one count of second-degree assault, one count of unlawful use of a weapon, and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm.
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the Status Nightclub on Feb. 15 after reports of a shooting. Officers found two women shot. One was pronounced dead at the scene, the second died at a nearby hospital. A man was shot in the face and chest and taken to the hospital, where he is in stable condition. Another woman was shot in the leg and is recovering.
