Group raises issues over Johnson County property taxes

OLATHE, Kan. — As property taxes continue to be a heated topic, in Johnson County, Kansas, the NAACP is being one voice of residents in the county saying officials are not properly reassessing property values and that people are being over charged.

“If a property sold for a million dollars and almost compares with another property, they’re going to list that sale,” President of the Olathe Unit of the NAACP Henry Lyons said. “But say another property is exactly or more like the comparable sale, but it sold for $800,000 they won’t list that one because that doesn’t give them the right to increase your assessment more.”
