Shawnee explores creating TIF district for area around I-435 and Midland

The city of Shawnee is looking to help an ailing dining and entertainment district with public tax financing aimed at bringing more commercial development to the area.

Businesses around Interstate 435 and Midland Drive have been hampered by nearly two years of construction, including a 16-month-long highway bridge replacement project.

It’s a pain that Nancy Hall, owner of Salon Savvy, said her business hadn’t experienced in its 14 years of operating. During the work to build a new I-435 bridge at Midland, she said she lost business, though it’s slowly been coming back since the new bridge opened last August…
