KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WDAF) — The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the University of Kansas Hospital, a unit that has long served the most critically ill children in the region, is set to shut down in the coming months.
For years, the PICU has been a vital resource not only for families in Kansas City but for communities across the state and beyond. Known for its world-class medical professionals, the unit has even stepped in during cases when nearby children’s hospitals, including Children’s Mercy, were unable to assist.
