Overland Park council approves new zoning rules for smaller, more attainable homes

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) – A packed crowd turned out Monday night as the Overland Park City Council voted 11-1 to approve new zoning rules for a pilot program designed to make it easier and faster to build smaller homes in the city. Ten people spoke in opposition to the new zoning rules. Four spoke in favor.

A city spokesperson told KCTV5 that despite opponents’ concerns about the streamlined process, the new zoning rules do not remove the existing requirement for a neighborhood meeting or public hearing before any zoning change for a portfolio home development can move forward.
