Lenexa murder case dogged detective for 21 years. He refused to retire until killer was caught

A retired Lenexa detective recently ended his career with a “rare” case — a 21-year-long murder investigation that resulted in a lengthy prison sentence.

On March 27 in Johnson County District Court, Angel Herrera was sentenced to more than 50 years in prison for the 2005 murder of Maria Morfin-Rojas, 30, of Lenexa and 34 months for aggravated burglary. The sentences will run consecutively.
