JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Amtrak’s Missouri River Runner trains will increase capacity by 25% while World Cup soccer games are being played in Kansas City, the Missouri Department of Transportation announced today.
Cars transferred from Illinois and Michigan will be added to both daily round trips between St. Louis and Kansas City by June 15 and will be available through July 12. Kansas City is hosting six World Cup matches: group-stage fixtures on June 16, 20, 25, and 27, a Round of 32 elimination match on July 3, and a quarterfinal on July 11.
“Missouri is proud to welcome visitors from around the world during these World Cup matches, and these additional train cars are key to providing them multimodal options around our state,” MoDOT Director Ed Hassinger said in a press release. “We’re thankful to our partners at Amtrak, Illinois, and Michigan to help provide this convenient service to our residents and guests during such a monumental event.”…
