A century later, Pensacola’s July 4, 1926, ax murder still unsolved

It was not the headline I expected or how I thought Independence Day in Pensacola 100 years ago would be remembered.

Looking at the July 5, 1926, edition of the Pensacola Journal, there was no front-page news of fireworks or parades commemorating the nation’s 150th anniversary a day earlier. Instead, there was horror screaming across the front page.

“FAMILY IS ATTACKED BY AXE-MAN.”…
