A Florida woman had her car stolen Monday morning after offering to help two strangers who claimed they needed to charge a dead cellphone, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident took place on Welcome Circle in Cantonment on Monday, Oct. 12. Investigators said a man and a woman approached the victim and told her they had traveled from Lake County to work on local hurricane recovery efforts. The pair told the woman their phones were out of battery, prompting her to offer her vehicle as a place to plug in.
“A male and a female approached another female, our victim, and said that they were here doing work,” Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons said in a statement. “They’re from Lake County, and they had no charge left on their phone, so the victim says, ‘ Why don’t you charge your phone in my car? So she let them inside the car, and then as soon as she left the car, they took off.”…
