Three Pensacola parks set to get ‘Portland Loo’ public restrooms this spring

Pensacola will soon install Portland Loos at three city parks.

Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said three long-awaited modular public bathrooms will ship to the city on Feb. 21, and the city plans to install them as soon as they arrive.

The installation process can take about two to three weeks, Reeves said.

Reeves announced last year that the city would purchase five Portland Loo units to install in parks in the city.

Reeves said Tuesday the parks for the first three units will be Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza, the Blake Doyle Skatepark and Bruce Beach.

The second phase of construction of the new park at Bruce Beach is under construction. Reeves said if the bathroom is installed and the second phase of construction is still more than two months away from being complete, the city would likely open the first phase of the park to the public, which includes a playground and a pedestrian bridge connecting the park to Community Maritime Park.

“That is not finalized yet, but I would say we’re progressing down that idea,” Reeves said.
