Pensacola is still among the top 100 cities in U.S. with the highest STD rates

Pensacola’s first “top cities” story of 2024 is unlikely to win any points in the tourism department. In a recent study based on data published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Pensacola landed in the No. 63 spot for cities with the highest STD rates in the U.S.

Innerbody.com, a health company that provides science-based information and advice to help its readers make better health-related decisions, ranked 100 cities with the highest STD rates in its seventh annual study in January.

The biggest takeaways from the study found that cities with the highest rates were disproportionately located in the south and that syphilis rates were on a “disturbing and deadly rise.”

Recent data from the Florida Department of Health corroborates the study’s findings. In 2022, Escambia County surpassed the annual per capita state average for STDs, and the area experienced a significant increase in the percentage of reported cases of syphilis.
