Move aside Punxsutawney Phil. Kenya the Giraffe at Gulf Breeze Zoo predicts Super Bowl champ

Move over Punxsutawney Phil, Gulf Breeze has found its own groundhog. Only this one is 15-feet-tall and can also predict the winner of the Super Bowl.

From now on, Santa Rosa County will celebrate Groundhog Day a little differently, starting with nixing the groundhog.

“Kenya, the giraffe, humbly and reverently agreed to assume the duties prescribed to her as official animal ambassador to perform Groundhog Day prognostications,” Santa Rosa District 5 Commissioner Colten Wright told visitors of the Gulf Breeze Zoo in a proclamation, where he was met with a roar of laughter. “Kenya the giraffe has established herself as possessing unique and valuable skills in making accurate and useful predictions, which Punxsutawney Phil has established himself as, let’s be honest, an ill-tempered, dubious and unreliable predictor of anything.”

As Kenya was unleashed from her stall Friday morning, she was offered four different breakfast buckets. The first two were labeled as “early spring” and “six more weeks of winter,” and whichever one she was to eat from would seal her prediction for the forecast. The second set were themed around the winner of this year’s Super Bowl, either the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
