Foley city has opened the South Pecan Street extension, a project aimed at enhancing local connectivity. The extension, covering 1.7 miles, links U.S. 98 south to Pride Boulevard. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the new road will alleviate traffic on Alabama 59 and improve local access for pedestrians and golf carts.

The project was designed with golf-cart users in mind, benefiting the 300 new homes in the area. Residents can now reach the RV park and OWA resort using a golf cart. The project also included a sidewalk expansion to accommodate these vehicles.

The city plans to add more sidewalks and a crosswalk in the coming weeks to further improve pedestrian access. The project will also improve access to Foley sports and events activities and the OWA resort.

The extension is near the Tropic Falls RV Resort, run by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI) and OWA. These groups donated the land for the extension, enabling the construction of the road, drainage, and paths for golf carts and pedestrians.
