‘Sushi Mike’ made business personal and customers family. Now they’re honoring his legacy

Less than a week after the death of My Ohana food truck owner and chef Mike Ledford sent shockwaves across the Emerald Coast on Feb. 9, the community has already raised over $93,000 in support of Ledford’s wife, Loren, and their three children through a GoFundMe page.

While Ledford’s pan-Asian food truck was based out of nearby Okaloosa County, he would frequently set up shop in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties and was a well-known and well-respected culinary figure. Locally, he had most recently vended at Pensacola’s January Gallery Night, the Pensacola Fall Food Truck Fest, Pensacola’s Night on the Tracks and Milton’s Blackwater Food Truck Festival. Little information had been released regarding the cause of his death until early this week, when it was deemed a homicide.

The Niceville Police Department released Monday that suspect 24-year-old Dylan Deschaine was transported to the Okaloosa County Jail after turning himself into police from a Cumberland Farms gas station in Niceville. By Tuesday, Deschaine had been charged with second-degree murder.
