Escambia County EMS Chief resigns

Escambia County’s Emergency Medical Services chief is resigning from his position three months after an EMS union delivered a vote of no confidence against him and the deputy chief.

David Torsell announced his resignation from position as chief of EMS via an email to Escambia County Administrator Wes Moreno Friday, according to an email obtained by the News Journal. The email did not provide a reason for the resignation.

“Please accept this as my formal resignation from the position of Chief of Emergency Medical Services,” the email said. “I am giving you the required 90-day notice period as per county policy for an employee in my position. As per the 90-day notice period, my last day of employment would be Aug. 1, 2024.”

Escambia County told the News Journal that Torsell will decline any comment regarding the resignation.

In a statement, the county told the News Journal that they “appreciate Chief Torsell’s service to Escambia County and wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

This comes nearly three months after the International Association of EMTs and Paramedics (IAEP) Local 325, EMS professionals with Escambia County EMS (ECEMS), delivered a vote of “no confidence” in Torsell Feb. 5.
